Summary:

ICoURS is a set of conferences and workshops with a common interest: the sensing of the underwater environment. During the first day (free of charge), the 8^th of October, three workshops will highlight topics of growing interest. In these workshops, invited talks will address:

• Geographical information systems and spatio temporal modelling;
• Water column acoustic imaging ;
• Swarm robots;
• Observation by non-acoustic methods.

The 9^th and the 10^th of October, a conference with call for papers will be focused on the detection and the classification of underwater targets. This is the third conference in a series that started with DRDC-A in 2001 (CAD/CAC 2001, Halifax, Canada) and Heriot-Watt University (DCUT, Edinburgh, Scotland) in 2007 about automatic target recognition in underwater environments. In addition to general detection and identification issues in sonar or video images, the conference will address specific themes as change detection and performance prediction. Selected papers will be gathered in the proceedings of the conference.

At last, the 10^th and the 11^th of October, ICoURS will end with a technology-oriented conference, aimed at the state-of-the-art of recent advances in the field of sonar applied to seafloor mapping and observation, for scientific and industrial applications. The programme will feature technical contributions by research laboratories and end-users, as well as presentations of recent developments and innovations by specialized manufacturers.
