Pre-Program
Exploiting the Energy of Our Oceans
Organizer : The Society of Underwater Technology (SUT)
Duration: 3 days
The SUT is an international learned society promoting the development, dissemination, and exchange of ideas, information and technology relevant to the underwater environment. Founded in 1966, the Society brings together organisations and individuals from over 30 countries with a common interest in subsea technology, ocean science and offshore engineering. It currently has branches in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Bergen, Rio de Janeiro, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Melbourne, Perth and Beijing.
The conference, being held 9-11 October, will be devoted to marine renewable energy and will cover the following points:
- Technologies (wind, wave, tidal, other technologies);
- Devices (designs, developments, testing, evaluation, certification);
- Environment (impacts, noise, modelling, data);
- Marine spatial planning (licensing, conflicts);
- European perspectives and lessons learned.

Materials and Corrosion in Marine and Offshore Wind Energy Industry
Organizer: The French Corrosion Institute
Duration: 1 day
Marine and offshore wind energies are rapidly developing in Europe. Consequently,large efforts and investments are performed in this field(a recent study showed that the 10 years investment demand was estimated at about 130 billon euros in Northern Europe).
Seawater and offshore environments are known to be very corrosive media for most materials.In addition systems may be exposed to high mechanical stresses. To comply with these demanding operating conditions, the material selection for marine energy systems (e. g. offshore wind energy or marine energy) must be perform with very special care. Corrosion and anti-corrosion systems must be considered from the beginning of any marine energy project, together with a well-defined corrosion management policy.
In this workshop, engineering, producers and end users are invited to expose and discuss corrosion and material issues related to marine and offshore wind energy systems. Presentations about material selection, corrosion, anti-corrosion systems and corrosion monitoring systems will be given by European technical experts. Forum discussions will be held at the end of the presentations.

Recommendations on marine aids to navigation
Organizer: AILA-AISM
Duration: 5 days
During SeaTechWeek 2012 the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) will be running a workshop that aims to provide its attendees with an opportunity to exchange expert knowledge, information and ideas on the latest developments in fixed and floating aids to navigation technology (AtoN). Its objective will be to review and amend existing IALA guidance on various aspects of AtoN system design and management, in particular in relation to daymarks, colour and vision, AIS AtoN, buoy and beacon technologies and buoy moorings.
The workshop will run from 1400 on Monday 8 October until approximately 1500 on 12 October and will be accompanied by an exhibition of the latest developments in AtoN equipment, provided by IALA Industrial members, to which all are invited.

MERIFIC
Organizers: Finistère General Council in partnership with Cornwall Council, Pôle Mer Bretagne, Technopôle Brest-Iroise Science Park and Iroise Marine Park
Duration: 3 days
European project based on the development and acceptation of renewable marine energies in peripheral and island regions.
1 plenary and 4 workshops.
EMSAC : European Marine Science Applications Consortium
Organizers: Pôle Mer Bretagne in partnership with GIS Europôle and Bretagne Innovation
Duration: 2 half-days
The EMSAC project (European Marine Science Applications Consortium) aims to develop and optimise the economic markets relating to the management of coastal waters and estuaries in three sectors: water quality, risks and living resources. The diverse partners come from wide-ranging regions of Europe (Southeast England, UK; Vastra Götaland, Sweden; and two French regions, PACA in the Southeast and Brittany in the Northwest). In order to meet its objectives, this European project has adopted a collaborative approach bringing together business and research clusters thus involving research institutions, companies, and public authorities. These news relationships should facilitate the implementation of action plans both in technological Research and Development itself and within the supporting infrastructures.
